Our democracy is at risk - tell Parliament to ban foreign donations.
New Zealand is being targeted by foreign state actors trying to interfere in our democracy. That's the serious warning given to MPs by academics, government policy advisors, and even our country's two spy agencies.
Recent media articles have highlighted how foreigners can influence political parties, including a senior minister in a previous government, by funnelling large donations through a NZ-based entity.
Our donation laws are too loose. It's time for Parliament to act so only New Zealand citizens and long-term residents can donate
Sign this petition calling on Parliament to:
- ban all foreign donations;
- restrict the ability to donate to only people entitled to vote;
- give the Electoral Commission greater power to hold political parties to account.
If you aren't eligible to influence an election by voting, you shouldn't be able to influence an election by donating.
