Chapel Road Bridge is dangerous and it needs to be fixed before it claims another life.
The Bridge was built over 60 years ago to rural standard but it’s now in a fast-growing urban environment. There are six schools nearby, the premier Barry Curtis Park, and Ormiston Town Centre under construction.
It has a dangerous dog-leg curve and a terrible crash record. There have been at least 56 crashes, including four fatalities, on this stretch of Chapel Road in the past decade.
The Bridge needs to be widened, straightened, and have pedestrian and cycling facilities installed.
We need to send a strong message to Auckland Council and Auckland Transport that they need to step up and fix Chapel Road Bridge. If nothing is done, more people’s lives will be put at risk. We cannot allow that to happen.
