Petition hosted by Jami-Lee Ross from the Advance NZ Party and MP for Botany.
Personal freedom to decide what we do with our own bodies is a fundamental human right.
Vaccines are an important part of a health system's measures to stop the spread of disease. But vaccinations must be a decision for parents and individuals, after considering all the available advice and evidence.
Parliament recently passed the COVID-19 Public Health Response Act 2020 which gives the Minister or Director-General of Health power to:
"...require persons to take any specified actions, or comply with any specified measures, that contribute or are likely to contribute to preventing the risk of the outbreak or spread of COVID-19..." (section 11).
This means the Government can require any action it believes will prevent the spread of disease.
With new vaccines being developed we must ensure all New Zealanders are protected from mandatory vaccination. The decision to vaccinate must be a personal choice for individuals and parents.
Our No Forced Vaccinations amendment has been proposed to remove the legal authority for any government to decide to make vaccinations mandatory. It amends the law so no person shall be required to be vaccinated without their written consent, or a guardian's consent in the case of a child.
Do you support our amendment to change the law to remove the right for any Government to make vaccinations mandatory?
