Mark Thompson - Documents Released Under OIA Request

In September 2020 a video was released and spread on social media purporting to show irregularities in the registration of Advance NZ such that would mean it was ineligible to be a legitimate contender in the 2020 General Elections. The video referred to correspondence having been made to the Electoral Commission in respect of these allegations.

The allegations made were false.

Advance NZ has subsequently requested any correspondence between Mark Thompson and the Electoral Commission be released under the Official Information Act 1982. These documents have been released (on 6 October 2020) and are linked to here:

Documents requested and released from the Electoral Office under the Official Information Act 1982.

The Electoral Commission's final correspondence with Mr Thompson concludes that Advance NZ has met all requirements for registration under the Electoral Act.
