Sarai is a first-generation NZ-Tokelau-Tuvalu, born to NZ immigrant parents from the Pacific Islands. Her parents were both leaders in the community and instilled a serving advocate stance in her from a young age.

Sarai has worked in the health industry for 30 years, and is currently a frontline independent Lead Midwifery Carer for families in the ADHB area.

Her experience has given her a deep insight into health issues, specifically relating to difficulties experienced by consumers needing to find health information and identifying appropriate sources. She has specific concerns around late-term abortion and the provision of safe, thorough midwifery care for women and whānau.

“Maintaining informed consent for consumers is of paramount importance to me.”

Sarai wishes to bridge the gap that currently exists between health professionals and consumers needs.
